Maya Jordan is a British-American doctor turned artist from Wolverhampton, based in London, Cambridge and Orlando. Drawing inspiration from artists like Alicia Keys, Raye, Whitney Houston and Queen, Maya creates soulful piano-led music for people challenging traditional narratives of society.
Described by Varsity magazine as “enchanting”, Maya is known for her soulful vocals, honest storytelling and dynamic stage performances.
However, Maya’s evolution as an artist is far from traditional. Despite learning to sing, play the piano, write compositions and perform in jazz, acapella and popular music ensembles at school, Maya initially chose to become a doctor. She found her creativity buried by the all-consuming nature of a medical career and, after leaving, dedicated years to redeveloping her artistry.
Though she did not know it at the time, her experiences during that period of life fundamentally shaped the person and artist she is today. Her lyrics are raw, honest and unfiltered. Her melodies are intentional and emotionally connected. And her performances are a manifestation of living life fully and unapologetically.

Maya is the lead vocalist for Cambridge’s most popular monthly funk jam at La Raza and a graduate of the Advanced Popular Performance Scheme at the University of Cambridge. Listen to an interview
“I’ll go onto my piano and I’ll start playing. I hear melodies normally first or lyrical ideas … then the chords come gradually after. Sometimes it’s really organic and it can come together in a couple of hours or it can take months.”
